Red Run Seawall

Good News! Red Run’s major capital improvement project, the seawall, has been completed. Now we can feel secure and confident that our lakefront real estate will be preserved from the aggressive erosion that has impacted our shoreline over the past few years.

Our contractor, Greenscapes, arrived the week before Christmas and was done with the building #1 wall before the holiday began. The guys working on the project were given time off for the week between Christmas and New Year’s. After the new year, they started work on buildings 2-5 section. What a mucky mess it was but they were very skilled, professional and efficient. Click here to see a gallery of photos taken as the project progressed.

Before they finished, we mentioned the poor condition of our access road so they offered to repair it for an additional $1,200. There was a drain pipe that ran under the road, located before the gate, that was completely collapsed, so they replaced it and added gravel to the surface of the road. In addition, they searched on both sides of Red Run Road for a drain pipe that should run under the road from the mailbox side to the access road side. We suspected that the pipe was clogged but much to our surprise, it turns out that there is NO pipe under the road to direct the water flow. That is why a pond forms on the south side of the road and without the proper drainage, during the rainy season, we get the runover across the road. This problem will be a future capital improvement project after the private home is built on the old Red Run restaurant site.

Greenscapes will return this spring to plant shrubs above the walls so we can qualify for a state grant that would reimburse us for part of the cost. If our project is chosen, we will get $10,000 which is taxable.

A big thank you goes out to Bill Mihm for his hard work in securing bids and coordinating the dock removal to accommodate Greenscapes.

We want to remind everyone that children should not play on the wall nor should the stones be used for “skipping”. The board will amend the Rules and Regs to address this issue.
